Resilient Together

we are committed to initiatives that are practical and evident in equipping vulnerable households with spiritual and material wellness.

WHO WE ARE

Our team of specialists have more than 20 years’ experience working in the development sector and are well acquainted with the challenges and constraints that have been barriers to development.

Founded in 2023, to contribute towards addressing some of the many challenges faced by underserved sub-groups within Zambia, Open Palms Initiative is a local not for profit faith-based organization that is passionate about making a significant impact towards uplifting our most vulnerable Zambians that are crying out for a helping hand.

Open Palms as the names suggests seeks to promote initiatives that are practical and evident in equipping vulnerable households with spiritual and material wellness.

Our conviction is that if we can build capacity within community members to self-assess their needs and guided by a spirit of open palms towards one another, we can foster communities that are resilient and responsive to one another’s needs. The Biblical injunction is to “remember the poor”.

Open Palms Initiative approach to community development work is premised on the fact that as a local organization we understand the language and cultural setting of the communities we seek to serve since we are part of them.

— Our Story

Situated in Southern Africa, Zambia is a lower middle-income country that has had political stability since its independence in the last 60 years in Sub-Saharan Africa and presents great potential to thrive economically but has been fraught with high poverty levels exacerbated over the years. According to the Zambia Statistics Agency Poverty Assessment Report (2023) Zambia’s national incidence poverty was estimated at 60% in 2022 with rural poverty standing at 79%. It is against this backdrop then that Open Palms Initiative was founded.
